Windows 11 ships with a built-in dark mode, and a third-party dark theme for Windows 11 goes further by restyling the window frames, the taskbar and File Explorer. Every theme below is a free download, and each entry names its author, its last update and the Windows 11 builds it claims to support.

Claims about sleep quality are harder to pin to a source, so this version of the list drops them. Pick a dark theme because you prefer it, and treat the battery gain as a bonus that depends on your screen.

How to Enable Dark Mode in Windows 11

Turn on the built-in Windows 11 dark mode theme before installing any third-party style. Most of the styles below assume it is on, and it is the one step here that carries no risk.

1. Right-click the desktop and choose Personalize, or open Settings and select Personalization.
2. Open Colors.
3. Under Choose your mode, select Dark. Custom lets you keep Windows dark while apps stay light, or the reverse.

Want a Windows 11 Black Theme Instead of Dark Gray?

Dark mode is charcoal, not black. Windows 11 also ships contrast themes, which repaint the whole interface in flat, high-contrast colors, including true black backgrounds. Open Settings, then Accessibility, then Contrast themes, pick one from the drop-down and select Apply. Microsoft’s contrast themes page also documents the shortcut: Alt + left Shift + Print Screen toggles the current contrast theme on and off. How to Install a Windows 11 Dark Theme

Every Windows 11 dark theme download on this page is an archive, not an installer. Individual packages differ in their add-ons, but the visual style itself installs the same way on every theme above. VSThemes and Cleodesktop publish the same sequence on their download pages.
